Group Purchasing and Shared Services
The concept of combining resources to bring about savings is not a new one; indeed, the philosophy of “group purchasing” is rooted in basic economics. A supplier of goods is inclined to provide better service, quality and pricing to those accounts that comprise the greatest percentage of his/her business. The volume of sales those accounts are able to give him/her determines their “purchasing power”.
Several smaller accounts, by grouping together and buying as a unit, can increase their power and demand the price and services accorded larger accounts. It is the group’s ability to offer an increased volume of sales that gives each member “purchasing power”. The strength of the program depends on the loyalty and unity of the group. Their negotiating power relates directly to their degree of common participation.
NYAHSA Services is pleased to offer the AAHSA and MedAssets’ Group Purchasing and Shared Services Program, a membership service that provides association members with the opportunity to save substantially on all types of purchasing decisions. Because AAHSA members make such a large number of purchases, major suppliers have offered significant discounts through the program. The more AAHSA members buy through the program, the greater the discounts will be! It is one of the only programs to offer this service absolutely free to AAHSA members.
