Growing Strong Roots: The Effect of Peer Mentoring on Nursing Home Aides

This project began in March 1, 2001and ended in spring 2004. Funding is provided by the Fan Fox and Leslie R. Samuels Foundation.

Background: This project is the FLTC’s attempt to address the shortage of certified nursing assistants (CNAs) in long term care and to enhance the quality of these CNAs. We define CNA peer mentoring as a process by which exemplary and experienced CNAs in nursing homes acquaint newly-hired CNAs with the customs, resources and values of the organization and assist the new CNA's to be both successful and comfortable in the nursing home. The CNA peer mentoring program is also the first step to a career ladder within the CNA job category. See available training materials, and the latest in the "What's Hot" section.
