The FLTC is a private, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) research and education organization founded in 1978. In keeping with its mission to improve by research and education the way care for an aging society is delivered, it has a reputation for outstanding research and demonstration projects and for innovative seminars aimed at keeping health care professionals informed of constant changes in the field.

The FLTC is affiliated with the New York Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (NYAHSA), which represents 555 voluntary long-term care providers, from nursing homes to home care agencies. This association is a great asset to FLTC research: We have a willing and cooperative study pool; we remain focused on projects that make an immediate practical difference in how we care for the elderly; and we are guided in our research by the needs of residents, staff, and management in these facilities. The FLTC also benefits from an expert research advisory board that adds an academic and national orientation to our work.

The FLTC has won two national and one statewide award for its demonstration and research projects. Our research is complemented by education: The FLTC provides about 60 two-day conferences and one-day seminars on topics critical to long-term care providers each year.
